PMG Capability & Maturity Assessment Framework

 

PMG Agile Scrum Assessments provide organizations with a clear, objective, and actionable understanding of their current Agile Scrum capabilities.  Designed for small to medium-sized organizations at different stages of their Agile journey, this service delivers evidence-based insights that inform decision-making, guide investment, and accelerate meaningful improvement.

 

Assessments may be engaged as standalone advisory services or integrated directly into PMG’s Introducing Agile Scrum and Optimizing Agile Scrum engagements.  In all cases, assessments are conducted using PMGs disciplined, outcome-focused approach grounded in the CLEAR Pathway methodology.

 

Two Assessment Paths

 

PMG offers two complementary assessment paths, aligned to organizational context and maturity:

 

Agile Scrum Capability Assessment

 

Typically paired with Introducing Agile Scrum, this assessment evaluates organizational readiness, foundational understanding, and structural alignment.  Its purpose is to clarify where to begin, identify risks, and establish a practical starting point for Agile adoption.

 

Agile Scrum Maturity Assessment

 

Typically paired with Optimizing Agile Scrum, this assessment evaluates how effectively Scrum is being applied in practice. It identifies systemic constraints, capability gaps, and opportunities to improve consistency, predictability, and value delivery.

 

Assessment Dimensions

 

PMG assessments examine size core dimensions, reflected in the framework diagram, to provide a balanced and comprehensive view of Agile Scrum effectiveness:

• Leadership & Governance - Assessment of leadership alignment, decision-making structures, sponsorship, and governance models that enable or constrain Agile ways of working.

 

• Scrum Roles & Accountabilities – Evaluation of role clarity, authority, and effectiveness across Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Delivery Teams.

 

• Product & Backlog Health – Review of backlog structure, prioritization, refinement practices, and alignment to customer and business value.

 

• Team Execution & Flow – Observation of Scrum events, sprint discipline, work-in-progress management, dependencies, and delivery flow.

 

• Metrics & Outcomes – Assessment of how success is measured, including the use of meaningful metrics that support transparency, predictability, and continuous improvement.

 

• Culture & Mindset – Evaluation of behavioral patterns, collaboration, trust and adaptability that influences Agile effectiveness beyond formal processes.
